Th Vice President of Ghana,Dr.Mahamadu Bawumia on Monday visited the tragic scene of Kintampo Waterfalls in the Brong Ahafo Region to condole with the bereaved families.
The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia described the disaster as a tragic loss to the nation.
Nineteen persons died in the fatal incident after hilltop trees crashed on them following heavy rains on Sunday.
The victims were mostly students from the Wenchi Senior High School. The rescue team made up of the Ghana National Fire Service and the Police had tough time to rescue several others trapped in the pool of the waterfall and subsequently retrieved the dead bodies.
Official report say after the incident confirmed 18 bodies retrieved, 22 others severely injured are currently receiving treatment at the Kintampo Government Hospital.
The Vice President Dr. Bawumia who rushed to the disaster site Monday morning stated that the next line of action will be taken after investigations into the accident is concluded.
“We have lost 18 young men and women at the prime of their lives who were in school trying to make a difference to their lives; we have lost them under very tragic circumstances. We will allow the necessary investigations to go on as we see what we can do for the affected families,” he said.
Meanwhile,the Minister of Tourism ,Catherine Afeku earlier visited the scene.several dignitaries and groups including the First Lady ,Rebeca Akufo Addo and the Minority in Parliament have extended their condolences to the bereaved family.
