Government of Ghana has lifted  ban placed on Small Scale Mining  for close to two years as part of measures to sanitize the mining sector which was causing wanton destruction to the environment.

The the ban has been lifted effective December 17,2018, but only 900 small Scale miners  out of 1,350 licensed small-scale miners vetted by the Inter-Ministerial Committee have been cleared to resume mining operations under strict compliance conditions effective Monday.

This was announced by the chairman of the inter-ministerial committee Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng.

“Having successfully implemented the strategies outlined in the road-map, the ban on small-scale mining is being lifted on Monday 17th December 2018 for miners who have gone through vetting successfully within the regularized and reformed framework” the minister of Environment said at a ceremony to lift the ban and outdoor other modalities in Accra,Friday December 14,2018.
