African environment ministers are expected  to meet in Kenya’s capital Nairobi from Monday to deliberate on strategies, plans and investments required to implement innovative environmental solutions.

According to the UN Environment ,the seventh special session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment which kicks off on Sept. 17 will be attended by 54 African ministers of the environment, experts and representatives of African civil society groups.

“The ministers will be looking at possibility of turning environmental policies into action through innovative solutions,” said the UN Environment in a statement.

It said that the outcomes of the conference will shape African countries’ position and their inputs into the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-4) that will take place in 2019.

The UN Environment noted that the meeting will also provide an opportunity for the region to prepare for the fourteenth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity scheduled for Nov. 17-29 in Egypt.
