Government is set to lift  ban placed on Small- Scale Mining more than a year ago.
The ban came into force as part of government’s effort to sanitize the artisanal mining sector and to curb illegal mining which was causing wanton destruction to the environment and water bodies, after incessant media and Civil Society uproar .
A joint Military and Police anti-illegal mining task -force,Operation Vanguard , was set up to enforce the ban in all mining districts across the country of which thousands of illegal miners arrested for defying the ban while hundreds of excavators,Shanfai equipments and Water Pumping machines confiscated.
A group call Concern Small Scale Miners unable to endure the negative implication of the ban warned few weeks ago they would be compelled to defy the ban if  not lifted by close of August,this year.
However, the Presidential Committee on Environment and Natural Resources in a letter dated August 8,2018 signed by Prof.Kwabena Frimpong Boateng ,Environment Minister and Chairman of the Committee , copied to the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners states that  the Inter- Ministerial committee on illegal  Mining  will announce Cabinet approved roadmap towards the lifting of the ban on small Scale mining on August 16,2018 in Accra.
