The Begoro District of the Forestry Commission of Ghana in the Eastern Region, has confiscated two truck loads of Plantains , destroyed total of  over 100 acres of illegal plantain farms in Worobong South Forest Reserve during a special operation dubbed “operation farm destruction”. Also three (3) farmers have been arrests .
The degraded portion of the forest reserve was given to farmers under the Taungya system which is multiple land -use system involving joint production of forestry and agricultural crops in the tropics.

The former First Lady Mrs.Agyeman Rawlings secured a 834,000-dollar grant from International Tropical Timber Organisation  to implement afforestation project on 650 hectares of the  degraded  portion of the forest reserve under the Taungya system through the 31st December Women’s Movement in collaboration with the Forestry Commission of Ghana between 2000 and 2004.The Project, according to the Forestry Commission was not successful as anticipated .
The beneficiary communities, which participated in the Participatory Tropical Forest Development by Women in the Indigenous Community Project, were Peseator, Akoradarko, Besebuom, Akukrutu, Kronkronso, Ahomahomaso and Amokrom.
Since then farmers in the communities continue to cultivate on the bare forest land without permit from the commission .
According to the Begoro District Manager of the Forest Services Division ,Michael Oteng Awuah , other farmers who were part of the Taungya System have also failed to plant trees alongside the cultivation of the crops ,hence the destruction of the farms .
He said ,foodstuffs confiscated will be used to support the Free Education Policy or donate to orphanage or as directed by the Court .
On September 2017 ,Technical Officer of the Forestry Commission at Begoro in similar fashion, destroyed a 40 acre Plantain farm in the same area.
