The National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO,in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern region is recommending immediate reclamation of an abandoned Pit meant for establishing a fuel filling station at Teacher Mante.
The abandoned deep pit which has become a pond located in a residential area has already claimed one life posing danger to several others particularly children.

Barely a week ago, a man in his 30’s identified as Kwasi Ammarh ,got drowned despite several efforts by joint rescue team of NADMO and Ghana National Fire Service , however ,his five year old boy was saved by an eyewitness .

Speaking to ENA  after a visit to the scene,the Ayensuano District NADMO Coordinator ,Mr Michael Kodua  stated the organization recommends to the District Assembly to reclaim the pit to avoid further incident since the owner of the property is reported dead years ago.
He said ,the pond continue to enlarge making it more dangerous while the stagnant water breeds  mosquitoes in the area.
NADMO officials in the Ayensuano district also raised concern over  illegal sand wining menace in the district which  has also led to abandonment of several excavated holes in the district posing danger to famers which need to be fixed.
A Unit Committee member for  Teacher Mante area, Azaglo Mathias said ,the abandoned pits  poses serious danger to the inhabitants hence it must be reclaimed .He narrated the ordeal of the rescue team  retrieving the body from beneath the pond due its depth.
