The affected farming communities include Atia,Amampama,Mamponteng , Kona, Boamang and other cocoa farming communities in the Ejisu Juaben municipality .
The deleterious pests attack cocoa pods and eat the pods causing damages to cocoa beans .According to some of the affected cocoa farmers ,even though this is not the first time the area is recording such incident ,this year’s invasion and destruction are very alarming and disastrous hence calling for swift action by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cocobod .
The Cocoa farmers say,the army-worms invasion in the area would affect government target of one million tones of Cocoa this year if the worms are not controlled .According to them several pesticides sprayed on their farms have not been able to kill the worms.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti regional branch of the Agricultural Ministry has inspected the affected farms and have indicated plans to mass spray the farms Monday to control the pest from spreading to other farms.
