Ghana has discovered Coral Reef in about 400meters deep waters close to Marine borders of Côte D’ivoire in the Western part of the country.
Work on the discovery of the reef started in  2012.
According to the EPA ,the Coral reef found is similar to that of the Norway .
 
Head of Petroleum Department at Environmental Protection Agency  ,Kojo Agbenor Efunam ,the coral reef will be developed into  tourist site where marine life can be watched for leisure  .
According to the Agency documentation will soon begin for the area to be declared a marine protected zone where human activities such as fishing ,oils drilling will be barred as part of the broader marine protection regulations being finalized by the Agency.
Coral reefs worldwide are under threat from  ocean acidification  , climate change (and this summer’s nasty heat wave), over fishing , coastal development ,Oil production among others .
Reef protects Coastlines from the damaging effects of wave action and tropical storms,Serves as shelter for marine organisms ,provides nitrogen and other vital nutrients for marine food chain supporting the nutrient cycle processes.
Economically,reefs serve as fishing and tourism destination which provides income to the local economy.
It is estimated that,the Great Barrier reef of Australia contributes $1.5 billion a year to the Australian Economy .
